Terms of service

Effective October 28, 2026

These terms cover what you buy from Mahj Clearly at mahjclearly.com. Mahj Clearly is a trading name of Emanuel Chereji, Hofmannsthalweg 20/1/4, 4030 Linz, Austria.

They are short on purpose. Anything a normal person would find surprising is in bold.

Prices are in US dollars. You pay the price the page showed when you bought.

The price is the total you pay. No tax is added at checkout. A digital product supplied to a buyer in the United States is supplied there for VAT purposes, whether you buy as a consumer (§ 3a Abs 13 lit a UStG 1994) or for a business (§ 3a Abs 6 UStG 1994), so the sale is outside Austrian VAT. Nothing is shipped, so there is no delivery charge.

Each purchase is a one-time purchase. There is no subscription, no recurring charge and no automatic renewal of anything. If you are ever billed twice, that is a mistake: email support@mahjclearly.com and we will refund the extra charge within one business day.

How your order is made

On our page you press the buy button for The Mahj Clearly Method. Beside it, two boxes are left unticked: tick them only if you want the Teach-Your-Table Pack (+$14) or a gift copy (+$19).
Shopify's secure checkout opens with exactly the items you chose and the total. You enter your email address and your payment details, or pay with a wallet such as Shop Pay, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
You press Pay now (or confirm in your wallet). That is the moment you place a binding order. There is no further step and no automatic upsell page after it.
Your thank-you page opens with your library links, and we email you the same links.

Until you place the order, you can check every entry in the checkout and correct it in its field, go back to our page with your browser's back button to change your choice, or close the page without buying.

We store your order: what you bought, the prices and the date. You can see it on your order page and in your order confirmation email. These terms stay on this page, where you can save or print them, and on request we will email you the version that applied to your order.

The contract is concluded in English, the only language available for it.

Where we sell

We sell to customers in the United States. Our checkout is set up for United States buyers, and our prices are in US dollars. If an order is placed from outside the United States, we cancel it and refund it in full the same day.

You are welcome to read every page of this site from anywhere in the world. We do not block visitors by country, and we do not redirect them.

Delivery

Everything is delivered digitally and immediately: as soon as your payment goes through, your library links appear on your thank-you page and your order status page, and arrive in your order confirmation email. Details are in our Shipping Policy.

Access. The trainer and your library pages stay online for as long as we offer The Mahj Clearly Method. The PDF files are yours to keep. If we ever stop offering it, we will tell you at least 30 days in advance and give you a way to download what you can keep.

What you may do with it

You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to download what you bought, keep it, read it, print it and use it for your own personal, non-commercial purposes.

The Mahj Clearly Method: print as many copies as you need for yourself, and use the files and the trainer on your own devices.
The Teach-Your-Table Pack: print it for your own table and the friends you are teaching.
A gift copy: the person who receives it gets the same personal license. A gift copy is for one person.

You may not resell, share, post or give away the files, your library links or the trainer (other than a gift copy you bought), and you may not present them as your own product. You may not copy our content into a course, product or website, remove our copyright or non-affiliation notices, or reuse the trainer's code or art on its own. If you would like to use our materials for a paid class, a club or a larger group, please write to us first.

Your license to the software. You may use the Mahj Clearly trainer for your own practice, in your browser, on your own devices. You may not resell, sublicense, copy for others, or reverse engineer it, except where the law allows you to. We keep it working as described; see the statutory warranty below.

Nothing here stops you from reviewing, rating or criticizing what you bought, anywhere, including by quoting short passages to do it.

All other rights in the content, the layout and the Mahj Clearly name are reserved.

Refunds

If it isn't right for you, you get a full refund, with no questions and no conditions, and you keep what you downloaded, if you ask within 30 days of your purchase. Email support@mahjclearly.com (your order number helps, but isn't required). The details are in our Refund Policy, which adds no condition this paragraph does not have.

The statutory warranty, which is separate from the guarantee

The guarantee above is voluntary. Independently of it, Austrian law gives you a two-year statutory warranty on digital content and digital services, and for the first year the law assumes a defect was present from the start unless we prove otherwise. We cannot exclude that and we do not try to.

So if something you bought does not match how we described it, is missing something we said it contained, or does not work, tell us. That is a legal entitlement, not a favor.

The League and its card

Mahj Clearly is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the National Mah Jongg League. We use the League's name only to refer to the League and its annual card. We never reproduce the League's card. Our practice card has our own original practice hands, for practice only. For real play, buy the current card from the League.

Rules and accuracy

We write our materials from the League's own rulings and page-cited rulebook references and guidance, and we label house rules as house rules. Tables and clubs differ, and the League may update its rulings. If the League's own rule differs from our materials, the League's rule comes first. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will check it and correct it.

What we promise, and what we do not

The Mahj Clearly Method is written teaching material for American mah jongg, with a web practice trainer, built around our own original practice card. We stand behind the description of what is in it.

We do not promise you a particular result. Mah jongg is a game of skill and luck. We teach the rules and a method for choosing hands, but we do not promise that you will win any game or reach any level of play, because that depends on you and the other players at your table.

Liability

We are liable to you without limit for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, and for any harm to a person, such as death or bodily harm. None of that is excluded, and no clause here can be read as excluding it.

For ordinary carelessness that causes no harm to a person, our liability is limited to what you paid for the item concerned.

Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the mandatory consumer protection law of the country you live in. Where that law gives you more than these terms do, that law wins.

Where you can sue

You keep every court you are entitled to use. If you want to sue us, you may do it in the courts where you live, and nothing here changes that. If we ever need to sue you, we will do it where you live.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, the new version appears here with a new effective date, and it applies to purchases made after that date.

A change never applies to a purchase you have already made, and continuing to use the site is not treated as agreeing to anything. The terms that govern your order are the ones that were on this page when you bought.
